Matcha is the master botanical of our eponymously named Matcha 09 blend - a redefinition of Japan’s ancient green tea of calm, focus and longevity.

At its simplest, Matcha powder is a concentrated green tea made from the finely milled leaves of Camilla Sinensis bushes - the same plant from which the traditional black tea is derived. Traditionally, it’s prepared with hot water and whipped into a frothy beverage. However, the growing process of Matcha is what gives this super tea its unparalleled power.

Picked from the tips of budding tea bushes shaded with bamboo mats up to four weeks before harvest, this ancient technique halts the photosynthesis process and preserves a concentrated dose of chlorophyll in the leaves. It’s why sipping matcha feels so life-giving. You’re literally drinking stored solar energy containing over 100-times the antioxidants of regular brewed tea. This makes Matcha naturally one of the most antioxidant-dense foods on the planet.

Antioxidants are the body’s foot soldiers—fighting inflammation, tissue damage, high cholesterol and elevated blood sugar. Matcha is also jacked with amino acids like L-Theanine—the yin to caffeine’s yang. While caffeine stimulates the nervous system, L-Theanine simultaneously calms and focuses the brain. The perfect one-two punch.

Studies have shown that concentrations of at least 50 mg of L-theanine significantly increases alpha brain waves and “increased alpha activity in the brain induced by L-theanine has been associated with increased creativity, increased performance under stress, and improved learning and concentration as well as decreased anxiety.” [1].

L-theanine also appears to “antagonize the stimulatory effects of caffeine by decreasing serotonin levels that have been artificially elevated by caffeine” [2]. What that means is that you can sustain the feeling of alertness longer without the crazy side effects that traditionally accompany caffeine.

It’s no wonder Matcha has been the choice of drink for Zen buddhist monks and samurais for centuries. Organic, ceremonial-grade and consciously-grown, sip our Matcha 09 for increased Zen power.
